In the case of Pre-Medical group top positions were sealed by female students. Two female students shared first position, Amna Yousaf student of Kashmir Model College Mirpur and Muniba Amin student of Government Model Science College Muzaffarbad by getting 1006 marks. Ayesha Shabir student of Government Model Science College Muzaffarbad got second position by getting 1001 marks. Urma Saher scored third position by achieving 999 marks. Among boys Pre-Medical group M Waqas Ahmed student of Kashmir Model College Mirpur got first position by getting 996 marks. Second position was shared by two students Moneem Iqbal student of Islamia Model Science College Khirick and Yastoor Ahmed Baig by scoring 990 marks. Bilal Rasheed student of Government Model Science College Muzaffarbad achieved third position by getting 984 marks.

In the case of Pre-Engineering group top positions were taken by male students. Adnan Sadiq scored first position by getting 1000 marks, Safeer Ansar got second position by scoring 985 marks and Ubaid Khadim gets successful in getting third position by getting 978 marks. Among girls Fariha Iqbal got first position by getting 963 marks, Khola Iqbal achieved second position with 959 marks and Bakhtawar Gillani scored third position by getting 947 marks.

USAID will give $155m for education in Sindh

USAID has approved a grant of $155 million for the promotion of education in Sindh, said Sindh Education Secretary Siddiq Memon on Monday. He said during a meeting between Sindh Education Minister Pir Mazharul Haq and US Consul General William Martin at the former’s office, the CG assured all his support for the cause of education in the province. The secretary said the USAID grant would be used for reconstruction of schools and provision for furniture and other essential educational equipments in the flood-hit areas. The assistance would be utilised to improve quality of education and to enhance availability of educational assistance to the people in remote areas, he said. The education secretary said the previous governments had inducted teachers, in the education department, who had little interest in their work and caused a deteriorating impact on education system. He said civil society, parents and all sections of society would have to make concerted efforts for improvement in standard of education in the province. The secretary said the current ratio of education in the province is 56 percent and this is much lower in the rural areas and far worse among girls. He appealed to all sections of the society to ensure that their girl children not only get enrolled in schools but also complete their education. Memon said the provincial education department was facing financial constraints and it was due to concerted efforts and sincerity of purpose of education minister that the international agencies were convinced to support the provincial education department. The European Union has provided an assistance of 39 million euros while the World Bank has approved $700 million soft loans for the education department, he said, This assistance has helped the education department to develop a schools’ infrastructure, however, much more is needed to be done

Rs 23.9b allocated for education sector

Faisalabad—Punjab government has allocated Rs 23.9 bilion for the development and improvement of Education Sector. The was stated by Secretary Higher Education Punjab Haseeb Athar while inspecting under construction social sciences department and newly constructed H-block of Government College University Faisalabad (GCUF) here.

He said that out of Rs 23.9 billion, Rs.1.2 billion was allocated for the establishment of new colleges in addition to the provision of basic facilities in educational institutions of the province. Secretary Higher Education said that the hurdles would be removed in the development projects of GCUF and urged upon the university administration to take immediate steps for the protection of historical building portions of GCUF.Divisional Commissioner Syed Tahir Husain, MPA Rana Afzal Khan and Vice Chancellor GCUF Dr. Zakir Hussain were also present on the occasion.—APP
